    Reclaiming Kindness

    2026-08-26 | 28 min.
In this episode of the Different podcast, Jill Rowe talks with Steve Chalke about reclaiming kindness. They discuss the impact of choosing kindness over hate, and the life-changing power it has on health and well-being.

They celebrate the sheer enormity of kindness and generosity in the world. Despite the media causing us to think kindness has gone missing, and they think through the ways that reclaiming kindness can happen through everyday actions, and they acknowledge the need to be intentional, choosing loving kindness even when anger, rage, and selfishness seem much easier options.

    The thing behind the thing

    2026-07-29 | 33 min.
In this episode of the Different podcast, Jill Rowe talks with Steve Chalke about getting to 'the thing behind the thing'. They discuss how easy it is to not go upstream and discover the root causes of the challenges we can face, both personally and societally.

They explore how we can get trapped in a cycle of reacting rather than finding lasting solutions and building the inclusion and belonging required and the bravery needed. And they dive deeper into the significance and place of spirituality at the heart of those lasting solutions, challenging the notion that spirituality is just a side hustle.

The clue is in the Amen

    2026-07-15 | 27 min.
In this episode of the Different podcast, Jill Rowe talks with Steve Chalke about what on earth prayer is and how they can make sense of it in a chaotic and unpredictable world where so much just seems wild.

They discuss how misunderstood prayer can be and explore the richness of it as a practise and and a way of life. They think of it as an exercise for transforming our thinking rather than twisting the arm of the divine.

And they recognise it as a statement of commitment, the clue always being in the Amen. This was an eye opening conversation and a realisation of what can shift when we are really paying attention.

    Longing for home

    2026-06-10 | 26 min.
In this episode of the Different podcast, Jill Rowe talks with Steve Chalke about the questions we ask trying to find home. They discuss those searching questions that have been asked for thousands of years.
Questions of human longing: Am I of worth? Do I matter? Is there a God? And does that God love me? They recognise just how important it is to stop and notice these curious longings when we are experiencing them.

They get onto Maslow and try to debunk some of the misunderstandings and misconceptions about what Maslow said and believe. And they talk about the four S's: seen, safe, soothed and secure, and how these reflect the deep questions we have.

And they look to the story of the Prodigal Son that Jesus told where we see how important it is to come to our senses and see where and what home actually is.
