23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams was beaten on her return to the singles' court after 4 years away - but she did take a set off Australian Maya Joint. 
41 year old Stan Wawrinka signed off on his Wimbledon career with a typically grueling defeat to Matteo Berrettini.
It was a better day for the Brits, 4 of them making it through to the Round Two.
And there were wins for defending champion Iga Swiatek and French Open champion Alexander Zverev.

It was a bad day for the home players as 10 Britons lost, while Jack Draper withdrew with a recurrence of the arm injury he's struggled with for most of the past 12 months.
