CONstruction #004 || Eight Months Out

    2026-06-24 | 1 h 8 min.
Welcome to another episode of the TWIFH special miniseries podcast, CONstruction: How to Throw A Fan Convention. Each month, V will catch up with John @jarrow, the logistics guy with all the spreadsheets and contracts for TGI Femslash, about, well, how to throw a successful fan convention. If you've ever thought, "It sure would be fun to spend the weekend with other people talking about my blorbo" but didn't know where to start, John has the knowledge and is willing to share it. This month, we're 8 months away from the next TGI Femslash in-person con, and we're also two months out from the very first TGIF/F Virtual Con -- make sure you get your passes!
If you have any questions for John about TGI Femslash or about the logistics behind planning a convention, you can send them to him via the TWIFH inbox on our Tumblr!

June 14, 2011: #shirtgate, Or: The Gaylor Episode

    2026-06-14 | 1 h 26 min.
Shake it off? This week, V and Emily delve way too deeply into a corner of the internet that makes them feel insane: #gaylor, which in some accountings kicked off this week in fandom history with Glee's #shirtgate. How? Why? Whomst? Where? It's all been way-too-meticulously recorded for the ages, so join us down the rabbithole. Also featuring Sebastian Stan??? (How could it be a TWIFH episode without mention of Bucky Barnes, tho. To be fair.)

Pop Syllabus - Pop Syllabus is a show where host Christiana Mbakwe Medina deconstructs the zeitgeist and answers the big cultural questions. How did we swing from body positivity to thin-being-in? Why do so many people trust wellness influencers over medical doctors? And how did tech oligarchs become the new celebrities? Think of Christiana as a cross between a messy news anchor and guerilla academic. Each week, she and an expert guest will unpack a buzzy topic, and help us understand the moment while going through it.

June 13-14, 2008: What We Can Learn from FedConUSA

    2026-06-10 | 57 min.
Defraud fans and prosper? This week, Emily and V take yet another jaunt to a fan convention gone horribly awry, and once again, it's Star Trek and it's in Dallas. This time, the key ideas are leaking spinal fluid, nuclear-angry celebrity guests, the relative gullibility of us scifi nerds, and German diplomacy. Talk turns very real as we look at the pros and cons (no pun intended) of the mainstreaming of fandom when it comes to conventions, vendors, and supporting fellow fans, while trying to stay safe from online -- and in-person -- scam artists who see fandom not as a community of like-minded human beings, but a demographic ripe for making quick cash. Fandom has always been cringecool to us, and like Star Trek, we're just gonna keep coming back.

Om This Week In Fandom History
Co-hosted by V. Arrow (@aimmyarrowshigh) and Emily Jaye (@idontgettechnology), This Week In Fandom History celebrates fandom culture's highest highs and weirdest lows. With which short-lived vampire cop drama was the very first X-Files fic crossed over? Who is Tara Gilesbie? How recently did the Starsky & Hutch Lending Library rent out its last zine? What were Strikethrough, Racefail, LGBTFansDeserveBetter, and Conchobar, anyway? V and Emily trade off some deep-internet research each week to learn and laugh (and sometimes rage) their way through the annals (heh) of fandom history. Come join us!
