Does Orthodoxy belong to the Classical "world-feeling" or to the Western? Neither! Orthodoxy inspired a new culture that rose out of the ashes of Classical antiquity and which also gave birth to its rivals: Islam, Judaism, Nestorianism, and the other early heresies.

According to Spengler, our Western culture did not begin with the Greeks and Romans but was born around the year 1000 with a completely new take on everything from math to art to religion, all in pursuit of the same thing: infinite, unbridled will-to-power.

In trying to understand what the West really is, it's helpful to contrast the things that we as a culture find intuitive with a culture that would NOT have found them intuitive at all: the Greeks and Romans, whose cultures were basically the exact opposite of ours.
