Complete Global Saturation: Episode 8 - Resident Evil 7 feat. John Linneman from Digital Foundry
In the latest episode, Alex is joined in person in Tokyo once again, this time by John Linneman - writer, content creator of DF Retro, and all around tech guru from Digital Foundry. They sit down with Rob to talk about the development history of Resident Evil 7. Very much an important title to Alex as an experience learning about it's development is what inspired his first book originally.A return to a first person viewpoint, only previously seen in spin-offs and mini-games was not what anyone was probably expecting - no less Alex who was shocked when he found out about it sometime before the games official reveal. But the original concept, art direction, early VR support, as well as the then new 'REach for the moon Engine' (RE Engine) all lined up to create an amazing title. While reviews were generally positive, and the sales okay, eventually RE7 took off eventually becoming Capcom's highest selling single RE title for quite a number of years, helped by its extensive DLC, long life support, and the success of its VR inclusion. John especially talks across the various technical elements that helped bring it to life and propel it to such an iconic status in the franchise. So join us as we talk through all of this and more on this episode of Complete Global Saturation!(Please be aware this episode was recorded some weeks back prior to the announcement of Resident Evil Requiem). This 12 episode limited podcast series is a follow up to Alex Aniel's book, 'Itchy, Tasty: A Unofficial History of Resident Evil' - which covers the first decade of the series from its origins in the early 1990s through to 2006. The book is available online at the usual retailers, in bookstores, or can be purchased directly from Alex's website - www.cvxfreak.com - which you can also have signed by Alex.Future episodes will cover other games in the decade or so beyond all in aid of looking into topics Alex will cover for an eventual follow up charting more direct history of the rest of the series, and some special guests will join us from time to time to talk about the series.
