For people of a certain age, the Essential Selection on BBC Radio 1 was the start to their weekend. Headed up by Pete Tong, it showcased the best tunes around at the time, had a show from Cafe Mambo and had various djs on every week.
I remember older people telling us it wasnt as good as it used to be, but we loved it.
