A TV iteration of Cruel Intentions, Manchester Prep, was planned for FOX’s 1999-2000 primetime schedule…until Rupert Murdoch (allegedly) had the project sacked for being too crass (!), at which time it was reworked as a prequel, Cruel Intentions 2, and everything about it is…number two: the casting, the timeline, the geography, the wardrobe, and Robin “AJ” Dunne as Valmont makes Ryan Phillippe look like Jon Hamm. This is possibly the crappiest show-verse property we’ve ever contemplated, and we’re talking about that, plus early TWoP days, Some Kind Of Wonderful, and “frisky twins” (ew). Listen now!

So it’s come to this: a Cruel Intentions sequel with none of the original talent attached. (Not even poor old Pierre Choderlos de Laclos gets a credit!) After Kathryn has ruined the family with her antics in New York, her cousin Cassidy is forced to lie low at a college in Santa Barbara, where she and her frenemy and sparring partner Jason (Kerr Smith!) simply can’t stop betting on sex. How does this entry slyly cross over with both American Psycho and Sex & The City? We’ll tell you everything important! …Which admittedly isn’t much.

After Joey found Audrey unconscious at the end of the previous episode, she got in touch with the Liddells offscreen, and arrangements have been made for Audrey to enter a rehab program in the Los Angeles area. Except, whoops, no one thought this person deep in substance misuse disorder might pretend to head for the airport, then actually find a karaoke bar, bring a guy named Bob (Seth Rogen!) back to a local hotel room, and hide out. Since Eddie has decided to try to enroll in that writers’ workshop and, conveniently, drive himself across the country that very night, Joey volunteers him to drive Audrey too — something Audrey only agrees to if they also bring Bob. Since Joey learned nothing from this flight risk the first time, predictable mayhem ensues. Dawson is way out over his skis on reshoots, enduring open disrespect from his DP and Natasha and threats from Heather (whose fault this is, honestly). And when Grams clashes with an entirely offscreen Mr. Smalls, Jen decides the answer is to set her up with CJ’s widowed Uncle Bill (Geoffrey Lewis! …You’ll know him when you see him). Look waaaaaay down for our latest episode: we’ve struck Rock! Bottom!!!

Following her sheepish west coast reunion with Dawson, Audrey returns to Boston. Smoothing things over is pretty easy with MOST of her friends, but Emma and the other Hell’s Belles need more convincing, especially with a gig opening for Loudermilk just hours away. Audrey convinces Emma to give her another chance, and probably really believes all her promises about turning over a new leaf when she makes them! Spending more time with Joey convinces Harley that she has to intervene between her and Eddie, but credit to her: the crazy caper she comes up with to get him back to Hell’s Kitchen actually does work…briefly. And Pacey dares to attend another party with Rinaldi: it seems like Pacey’s frictionless rise through the ranks at the brokerage is continuing, though a Mystery Girl (Sarah Shahi!) observing him warns him to be on his guard. There’s no wrong way to enjoy our episode on “All The Right Moves”!

We’re following the teens of Dawson’s Creek through each day of a particularly eventful week. Joey, back at school after the holidays, is leaving dozens of messages for Eddie that are going unreturned, and she’s not the only one looking for him: Harley’s back, too. Jen has finally been worn down on volunteering at The Stand, and she must really be committed if she’s letting CJ train her at this stage in their relationship; meanwhile, David and Jack are taking the Big Step of getting tested for STIs together. Dawson and Todd return to L.A., where the latter is not quite ready to receive fearless feedback from studio executive Larry Newman (Paul Gleason!). And when Pacey runs into Emma there, the aquarium becomes the site for the two to get to know each other much better than ever before. Today is the day for our episode on “Day Out Of Days”!

It’s the holidays, but not the peace on earth/goodwill to men kind. Joey weirds Eddie out by inviting him back to Capeside, which he declines, opening the door for Joey to make the same invitation to Audrey after Audrey drunkenly misses her flight back to Los Angeles. Pacey can’t wait to drive his new Beemer up to the Witter house and rub his family’s collective nose in all his financial success. Dawson decides to continue ignoring his hurt over Natasha’s possible infidelity by inviting her to Capeside…and Todd also comes, possibly just so there’s someone to hit on Gale?
